Immortals: Fenyx Rising Review

A few weeks ago, I demoed Immortals: Fenyx Rising and liked what I saw: a new IP from Ubisoft with colorful visuals, an expansive open world steeped in Greek mythology, and a comedic story that presents the Olympian gods in a new way. Sadly, the game’s strengths quickly waned, and its plethora of weaknesses began to wear on me over the 25 hours I played Immortals for this review. While I have no intention of picking up this game again, that’s not to say I didn’t have fun with it at times. The adventure is set in the Golden Isle,…

Immortals: Fenyx Rising Hands-on Preview Shows How the Game Is Inspired by Zelda: Breath of the Wild

In October, Den of Geek got four hours of hands-on playtime with Ubisoft’s upcoming action-adventure fantasy title Immortals: Fenyx Rising. In the online demo, which was guided by a Ubisoft demoist, we got to see a bit of the game’s open-world setting, the Golden Isle, which is heavily inspired by the milieu of Greek mythology. The game is vast, epic-looking, and from what I’ve played so far, has engaging combat and gameplay loops that should fill out its open world nicely. The story revolves around a dark titan named Typhon, who was banished to the underworld of Tartaros by Zeus…

Immortals Fenyx Rising: Release Date and Trailer

During a recent digital event, Ubisoft showcased Immortals Fenyx Rising (the game previously known as Gods and Monsters). The name may be different, but Immortals Fenyx Rising doesn’t appear to have changed in many other major ways since we saw the Gods and Monsters trailer in 2019 (at least on the surface). Both featured colorful environments, an emphasis on mythological monsters, and more than a few reasons to suggest that Ubisoft was trying to make their own Breath of the Wild with a little Assassin’s Creed tossed in. Based on the footage and impressions that we’ve seen thus far, it…

Star Wars Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising Review

About three quarters through the newest novel in Timothy Zahn’s long-running Thrawn series, a character notes that he “hadn’t the slightest idea what Thrawn was doing. But the small smile on the Chiss’s face chilled him straight to the bone.” If this is what you’re coming to this book for — tactical puzzles where you won’t really know what the protagonist is doing or why, but get to play an adoring Watson to his cold Holmes — you’ll probably like this. Chaos Rising is more of the same, a series of puzzles that breaks a lot of the rules that…

My Hero Academia The Movie – Heroes: Rising Review

My Hero Academia has only been around for a few years, but it’s already gained mass acclaim and become one of the most popular anime series in years. The series consistently pushes its characters to challenging new places, but it can be difficult for supplemental feature films to capture the same level of importance and feel like they’re not stuck inside of some non-canonical bubble. My Hero Academia’s first film, Two Heroes, was considered a success by fans, but the series is now in a more complex place where its endgame is increasingly on its mind. Thankfully, My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising isn’t just an…
