Evil Season 2 is Paramount+’s First Big Opportunity

Every fresh new venture needs a feature that makes it essential and worthy of consumer’s money. In the technology world they call them “killer apps.” Bill Gates once described Internet Explorer as Microsoft’s killer app (R.I.P. to Internet Explorer…and also maybe Bill Gates’ career as a public figure). Each new videogame console launch is usually accompanied by a killer app game like Grand Theft Auto for PlayStation 2 or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch. The streaming world, however, operates a bit differently. Streaming platforms are so big and so important to their respective entertainment…

Most notably, sci-fi film Infinite, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Mark Wahlberg, will be the service’s first theater-skipping feature offering; a surefire sign of things to come. Obviously, the boat of box-office-bypassing movies already left its proverbial dock some time ago; a…

Yellowstone Caldera, the enormous crater in the center of Yellowstone National Park, was formed by a cataclysmic volcanic eruption 640,000 years ago. Suffice it to say, Yellowstone has a lot of history. For its next TV effort, ViacomCBS streaming service Paramount+ is going to capture a small slice of it…roughly 639,900 years after that eruption.  Paramount+ has ordered a Yellowstone prequel series from creator Taylor Sheridan called Y: 1883. With the deal reportedly locked, the film is now expected to premiere on the retail giant’s streaming platform, Amazon Prime Video, on December 18. The move, of course, is a response to the stagnant state of a pandemic-era global box office. Indeed, the sequel was originally slated to hit theaters on August 7,…

The Godfather Creation Story To Get Scripted Series at Paramount+

“I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse,” Don Vito Corleone said in Mario Puzo’s novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s film The Godfather. The terms might include keeping your brains at the cost of a popular singer or waking up to the head of your prized stud in your bed, but it got things done. It wasn’t personal, it was business. The quote inspired the title of a new series which follows The Godfather’s  journey from book to motion picture. The Offer will be one of the new offerings featured when CBS All Access rebrands as Paramount+ by early…

ViacomCBS’s answer to Disney+ and HBO Max will officially be dubbed Paramount+. With brands like Viacom, CBS, Showtime, MTV, and more in the fold, ViacomCBS had no shortage of naming options. But it elected to go with its movie arm Paramount, perhaps believing that will add a level of prestige.  As previously confirmed, ViacomCBS’s most prominent current streaming service,…

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Moving Forward at Paramount

This time last year, things did not look good for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. The first trailer for Paramount’s adaptation of Sega’s video game franchise had just been released, and the backlash was severe. It was late April of 2019 – which feels like an aeon ago now – that we got our first proper look at the ‘live-action’ version of the beloved blue hedgehog, and it revealed that certain design decisions had led to him sporting human teeth, for reasons that are still fairly mystifying. To put it bluntly: it did not go down well, and a hasty…

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Sequel in the Works at Paramount

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark capitalized last year on the classic 1980s literary horror franchise responsible for generational childhood trauma with a feature film that—having earned $105.8 million worldwide—may not have set the box office scene on fire, but certainly provided a big enough bang for its studio’s budgetary buck. Consequently, sequel plans are now moving forward. The creative band is getting back together for the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark sequel movie, with director André Øvredal and writers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman set to return. Additionally, Guillermo del Toro—who worked on the first film’s…
