NOS4A2 Canceled After Two Seasons at AMC

This time Charlie Manx won’t be coming back. AMC has canceled supernatural horror drama NOS4A2 after two seasons. NOS4A2 showrunner Jami O’Brien broke the news via her Twitter feed, writing:  “Well friends, I heard from AMC last week. We won’t be making a 3rd season of NOS4A2. It’s a bummer, but I’m grateful we were at least able to finish adapting the storyline from Joe Hill’s terrific novel. CONGRATULATIONS to every single member of our phenomenal team on two seasons of weird and wonderful TV. I will miss seeing everyone back in Little Rhody this year, but I’m awfully proud…

NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 10 Review: Bats

This NOS4A2 review contains spoilers. NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 10 For all the flack Game of Thrones gets for the way it ended, one of the things that the show always did that I appreciated was they didn’t save the big crazy finale for the last episode of the season. The ninth episode of the season always had the big shocking moments, and the tenth episode explored more of the after-effects of the big event and set the pace for the next season. “Bats” doesn’t quite do the same thing, but considering the bulk of the episode of NOS4A2 is…

NOS4A2 Showrunner Breaks Down Season 2 Ending and Teases What’s Next

The following contains spoilers for NOS4A2 season 2. The first season of NOS4A2 ended with ambiguity. Charlie Manx is left injured and brain-dead, permanently trapped in the hospital. Vic McQueen discovers that she’s pregnant, putting a damper on her attempts to escape Haverhill and her old life. Bing Partridge is on the run from the cops, Manx’s partner in crime now left without a boss and with the authorities nipping at his heels. If the show stopped there, there’d be hanging threads, but there was confidence enough that evil was stopped, until it’s shown that a well-meaning mechanic bought the…

NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 9 Review: Welcome to Christmasland

This NOS4A2 review contains spoilers. NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 9 There’s a certain sadness that comes along with parenting. As a first-time parent of a toddler, I’ve been spared most of it, but even though my child is still in the early stages of learning to speak and developing higher motor functions, there’s already a little maudlin joy in watching her grow and change. The little potato-shaped baby I fed and cuddled on the couch doesn’t snuggle in immediately when you pick her up. If she wants something, she’s quick about expressing her opinion, mostly with body language. If she…

NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 8 Review: Chris McQueen

This NOS4A2 review contains spoilers. NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 8 One of the strongest relationships in NOS4A2 has been the father-daughter connection between Chris and Vic McQueen. They fought, certainly, and Chris undoubtedly made a lot of mistakes, but there was no mistaking the bond of love that they shared, and the closeness that they once had. Vic, as seen in the opening moments of “Chris McQueen,” always seemed to be her father’s shadow, chasing after him even when he ran away. Eventually, through the twin forces of time and her own motherhood, she stopped. He kept pushing until she…

NOS4A2 Season 2: Jami O’Brien On Humanizing Charlie Manx

The following contains spoilers for NOS4A2 season 2 episode 7. Despite having significant experience in the world of television, NOS4A2 showrunner Jami O’Brien, like the rest of us, isn’t quite sure where the industry is going to go. She’s as in the dark as anyone during the time of COVID-19 and a growing rift between online streaming services and traditional cable and broadcast television. However, rather than being intimidated, she’s game for the challenge.  “Every day it changes and I think it’s still changing. It may change again into something that we have no idea about, you know what I…

NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 7 Review: Cripple Creek

This NOS4A2 review contains spoilers. NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 7 In our recent interview with NOS4A2 showrunner Jami O’Brien, she addresses something very surprising. There are people online who have bought into the lies of Charlie Manx. He claims he’s saving children from bad situations, and there are people who say, “Yes, that sounds right,” and look no further than that. Hopefully, his actions in the second season are enough to put fire to those particular lies, but that doesn’t mean Manx isn’t still a character with more dimensions than first suspected. Oh no, while up on “Cripple Creek,” Bing…

NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 6 Review: The Hourglass

This NOS4A2 review contains spoilers. NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 6 One of the smarter choices in “The Hourglass” is to lean on Maggie (Jahkara Smith), who has been underutilized this season. She was such a crucial part of the first season of NOS4A2, being Vic’s inroad to the world of the supernatural, and this season she’s mostly just been hanging around, afraid to use her bag of tiles due to the horrible side effects she suffers. That in and of itself is an important role—gifts have consequences—but it’s not the most exciting thing to be on television, and to see…

NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 5 Review: Bruce Wayne McQueen

This NOS4A2 review contains spoilers. NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 5 It’s been established. Charlie Manx is coming to Haverhill and he’s looking to get his hands on Bruce Wayne McQueen, one way or another. There are FBI agents, explosive devices, and Wayne’s family standing in his way. So, really, nothing that can slow down a man who is essentially immortal with a lot of experience sneaking around and stealing children, especially with the Gas Mask Man, Bing Partridge, working alongside him. “Bruce Wayne McQueen” is one of the most cleverly constructed episodes of NOS4A2, especially of this season, because it…

NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 4 Review: The Lake House

This NOS4A2 review contains spoilers. NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 4 For as much skill as Bing Partridge (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) has with connecting to children, Charlie Manx (Zachary Quinto) is no slouch in that department, either. He might not be able to talk to kids on their level as well as Bing, but there’s just something about Charlie, and the tantalizing lure of Christmasland, that speaks to children in a way that’s difficult to resist. Throughout “The Lake House,” Charlie is putting a full-court press on Wayne (Jason David) to get him to take a seat in the back of…

NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 3 Review: The Night Road

This NOS4A2 review contains spoilers. NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 3 One thing that NOS4A2 did between seasons is tinker with its special effects. For whatever reason, Charlie Manx as an old man looks a little better than he did the previous season (and the exaggerated widow’s peak he had when he was young Charlie has been eliminated, too). All across the board, it seems, the special effects seem to be coming across the screen better, from the blood and guts of previous episodes to things like the scarred-up ghost living in the Manx house on the outskirts of the Manx…
