This Fear the Walking Dead review contains spoilers. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 14 After being sidelined for most of the season, Fear the Walking Dead finally throws one of its best characters into the fray. I’m talking about Alicia, of course, who hasn’t gotten nearly enough screen time lately. So it’s interesting (and refreshing) that “Mother” should lean so heavily into what it means to be Madison Clark’s daughter. The episode continues season 6’s trend of unexpected reunions, and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint. But more on that chance encounter in a bit. In the meantime, let’s talk about Teddy Maddox…

This article contains RESIDENT EVIL VILLAGE spoilers. While Resident Evil Village‘s trailers and demos strongly suggested that the mysterious Mother Miranda would ultimately be the game’s “main” villain, even the wildest theories regarding the character’s background didn’t come close to guessing just how important and fascinating she would prove to be. As is this case with many things in Resident Evil Village, though, there’s a chance you could walk away from the game without a proper understanding of who, exactly, Mother Miranda is and why she is more than just another entry into Resident Evil‘s impressive collection of big bads. While some…

This The Simpsons review contains spoilers. The Simpsons Season 32 Episode 20 While the Minor Arcana didn’t foretell a major disaster, The Simpsons Season 32 episode 20, ” Mother and Child Reunion,” is a letdown they should have seen coming. The audience sure did. We’ve seen all these scenarios before, and done better. Very much like most Mothers’ Day gifts, the box doesn’t live up to the wrapping, which have been set high for this season. We all know Lisa is going to be president someday. The Simpsons were right about Trump, and they’ve put Lisa in the White House…

This review contains Line of Duty spoilers. Like a plump Christmas stocking, the real treats of series six have worked their way down to where we are now – somewhere around the heel. Having dutifully unwrapped the first couple of episodes and politely smiled at the satsumas and novelty tissues, we’ve reached the really good stuff. Episode four was nothing but single malt miniatures and Hotel Chocolat, both of which, incidentally, would be excellent ways to recover our nerves after all that excitement. Everyone fortified? Let’s go. RIP Jonesy. RIP Jimmy. RIP AC-12? Of all the balaclava-men-and-bolt-cutter peril the team has survived…

“When did we stop caring about honesty and integrity?” asks Supt. Ted Hastings in the Line of Duty series six trailer. His words could be this show’s battle cry. The first series of the BBC crime thriller was inspired by the 2005 fatal shooting of Jean-Charles de Menezes, an electrician mistaken for a terrorist by a Metropolitan Police surveillance team. In the four series since, it’s drawn on other real-life failures of the law – the framing of vulnerable people for serious crimes, child abusers being protected from investigation because of their status, officers leaking to the press and accepting…

This THe Flash review contains spoilers. The Flash Season 7 Episode 3 When we initially learned that the last three episodes of The Flash’s Season 6 would be rolled over into its seventh, some of us (read: me) were hopeful that it might serve as an impetus to rethink Season 7 entirely and build these additional installments into some sort of larger story that worked as a cohesive whole. But, unfortunately, it’s very obvious that “Mother” was meant to serve as The Flash’s sixth season finale – for all the good and ill that designation entails. Season enders have never…

Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom stars Viola Davis as one of the most influential blues singers of all time. The real Ma Rainey was the first stage entertainer to bridge the gap between the white and the Black performance circuits. “If you don’t like my ocean, don’t fish in my sea,” Rainey warned in her 1927 song, “Don’t Fish in My Sea,” but the crowds couldn’t stay away. She was one of the first entertainers to play integrated shows in the Jim Crow South, and the first popular singer with authentic blues in her setlist. “Madame” Gertrude Rainey was the…

This article contains spoilers for The Stand episode 1 and some aspects of the book. Though Stephen King may be best known as a prolific creator of bullies, creeps, and monsters (sometimes all in one person), one of his finest characters is firmly on the side of the angels. “Mother” Abigail Freemantle is a key figure in King’s 1978 classic The Stand (and in its 1990 unabridged version as well). A direct descendant of freed slaves, the 108-year-old Mother Abigail serves as God’s figurehead on Earth following a superflu pandemic that kills off 99% of the population and sets up…

Alex Winter’s musical documentary Zappa is a fun movie which frames Frank Zappa the way he should be, as a hero. While this may ring particularly true for fans of the original Mother of Invention, the film is also a must-see for anyone who plugged in a guitar, banged drums, pounded a piano, ruined their teeth on clarinet reeds, or waited for their triangle part to come up in a Julliard School of Music chamber ensemble. It is also for social justice warriors stretching to see beyond the warning labels. The feature documentary is an intimate look at an artist…

The full trailer for Enola Holmes has arrived, showcasing a game of a Netflix film that is very much afoot. Expanding upon the Netflix film’s recent release-date-setting teaser, which was essentially a montage showcase of characters, this clip manages to encapsulate the plot. While clearly depicting characters from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes mythos (controversially, as evidenced by a recent lawsuit), the film is an adaptation of Nancy Springer’s six-book-spanning Enola Holmes series, specifically the first one, 2006’s The Case of the Missing Marquess, and was directed by Harry Bradbeer. On that note, check out the official trailer for Netflix’s…
