The Matrix 4 “Describes the Next 20 Years of Digital Life”

Even after the trippy and action-packed trailer dropped our first look at this new era of The Matrix, the fourth installment in the cyberpunk film franchise remains an unsolvable puzzle box. We certainly tried to decode the trailer for answers in our breakdown and analysis, but there’s so much that remains a mystery. How are Neo and Trinity back from the dead? Is this supposed to be a new version of the Matrix? Was Zion just another simulation all along? Why is there a new, younger Morpheus? While director and co-writer Lana Wachowski isn’t giving away any of the answers,…

The Matrix 4 Trailer Breakdown: Neo, Trinity, Morpheus, and…Smith?!

The moment Matrix fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. The next chapter of Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus’ story is almost here and Warner Bros. has a trailer to prove it. It’s an action-packed first look at Resurrections, a sequel that seems to take the franchise in new directions, and introduces quite a few new mysteries to the already complex lore of The Matrix, all accompanied by Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit.” While it refreshingly plays things very close to the chest at a time when most trailers give away 2/3 of the plot, I’ve tried my best to dissect…

Something tells us you may have heard that the trailer for the next installment of a certain beloved 1999 sci-fi action film arrived today. Ah hell, let’s just watch the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections again right now. Yep, still pretty cool. All of Den of Geek’s sentinels are hard at work in Machine City right now breaking down every inch of new Matrix Resurrections footage. In the meantime, however, there’s one urgent question that needs to be addressed. How did Neo (Keanu Reeves) make it back into The Matrix anyway? The trailer leaves no confusion that when the fourth…

The Matrix 4 Trailer Song White Rabbit Has Cut Holes in Reality for Years

Red pills, white pills, taller, small, or blue. The Matrix Resurrections trailer offers so many choices, possibilities, and questions that our head is already hurting again. Is Thomas Anderson, aka Neo (Keanu Reeves), stuck in the same old machine, or is this a new Neo wearing John Wick’s beard? Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) is in her own wonderland. We can’t trust the psychiatrist that Neil Patrick Harris is playing. The Matrix 4 trailer sends us chasing a “White Rabbit.”  When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead, you have to ask Alice. You can watch the trailer here: Lana Wachowski’s follow-up…

The Matrix 4 Trailer Teasers Reveal a Big Morpheus Mystery

What the hell is going on with Morpheus? That’s the question on fans’ minds after spending the last day trying to decipher all of the new Matrix Resurrections teasers released by Warner Bros. If you go to WhatIsTheMatrix.com right now, you’ll be asked to make a choice: the red pill or the blue pill. Choosing the red pill freed Neo from the simulation in 1999, and if you make the same choice on the fan site, you’ll be treated to one of several teasers depending on the time of the day. According to EW, there are 180,000 variations of the…

A Glitch in the Matrix

What if we are living in a simulation, and the world as we know it is not real? To tackle this mind-bending idea, acclaimed filmmaker Rodney Ascher (ROOM 237, THE NIGHTMARE) uses a noted speech from Philip K. Dick to dive down the rabbit hole of science, philosophy, and conspiracy theory. Leaving no stone unturned in exploring the unprovable, the film uses contemporary cultural touchstones like THE MATRIX, interviews with real people shrouded in digital avatars, and a wide array of voices, expert and amateur alike. If simulation theory is not science fiction but fact, and life is a video…

The Batman, Shazam 2, Black Adam, Matrix 4 Release Date Shake-Up

Following the news on Monday that Warner Bros. Pictures was shifting the release of its sci-fi epic Dune from December 18 of this year to October 1, 2021, Deadline reports that the studio has now massively reshuffled even more of its planned tentpole films for the next two years. Not surprisingly, Matt Reeves’ The Batman is moving off that October 1, 2021 date in the wake of Dune’s shift and will now open on March 4, 2022. That spot was originally held by Warner Bros. for a proposed film based on the venerable video game Minecraft, which no longer has…

The Matrix DP Recalls On-Set Problems of Sequels

While a large majority of The Matrix fans would put the first movie squarely at the top of the trilogy with no bother from its sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions do still have their cheerleaders. Cinematographer Bill Pope found himself dragging his pompoms after a gruelling back-to-back shoot on both, though, describing it as “mind numbing and soul numbing.” Pope, who had previously worked with The Matrix directors The Wachowskis on 1996’s critically acclaimed Bound before climbing aboard the pair’s groundbreaking sci-fi action trilogy, revealed the exhaustive nature of the Reloaded and Revolutions shoot in a new…

The Matrix 4 Filming Delayed Due to Coronavirus Concerns

The Matrix 4 has temporarily shut down production due to the coronavirus pandemic that’s put much of the movie industry on hold in the past few weeks. The movie, a surprise sequel to the trilogy of cyberpunk action movies starring Keanu Reeves, was shooting in Berlin when Warner Bros. decided to postpone production. According to Deadline, no one in the cast or crew has tested positive for the infection, so this is just a precautionary measure by the studio, which has also closed down production for The Batman, Fantastic Beasts 3, King Richard, and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley movie. WB…
