Is Jeopardy! Finally Preparing Ken Jennings for the Hosting Job?

What if the right Jeopardy! host was the obvious choice all along? Sony Pictures Television, the studio behind Jeopardy!, announced today that two guest hosts will see the beloved quiz show institution through to the end of the calendar year, following the ousting of the former executive producer and the show’s (poor) choice to replace Alex Trebek, Mike Richards. Former guest host Mayim Bialik, who has already secured a job hosting primetime Jeopardy! specials, will begin her next guest hosting stint on September 20 and end it the first week of November, for seven weeks total. The Mike Richards Era is Officially Over at Jeopardy!

All Mike Richards had to do was his job.  That job, of course, was serving as executive producer on two syndicated game show giants: Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. Richards held down these roles beginning in May 2020, leaving the same role at The Price is Right and taking over from the beloved Harry Friedman who stewarded Merv Griffin’s two creations into TV icons. It’s as big a producing gig as there is in the game show biz. And yet, like many other American Icaruses with firm handshakes and a surplus of hubris, Richards wanted more.  Richards wanted to host.…

And at the center of much of it, as he often seems to be, was Brad Rutter.  If there ever was a trivia competition Hall-of-Famer, it’s Rutter. The Lancaster, Pennsylvania-born former Quiz Bowler has been a staple of competitive trivia for years.…

Link Tank: Alex Trebek’s Irreplaceable Presence on Jeopardy

Who will replace Alex Trebek on Jeopardy? Who can replace Alex Trebek on Jeopardy? While some names have been thrown around since the passing of the TV legend, his shoes will be a tough one to fill. “When Alex Trebek began hosting Jeopardy, Ronald Reagan was in his first term, Ghostbusters was a recent box-office hit, and most Millennials hadn’t been born yet. Now, after nearly four decades, his time behind the podium is done. Trebek, a TV icon, died over the weekend from pancreatic cancer that he was diagnosed with a year and a half ago.” Read more at…
