Ronnie James Dio Honored in Z2 Comics’ Upcoming Holy Diver Graphic Novel

“Between the velvet lies, there’s a truth that’s hard as steel,” we hear on the song “Holy Diver.” Z2 Comics will pulp that vision into a graphic novel and Ronnie James Dio is the “star of the masquerade.” Z2 is the prime mover of music-based comics and graphic novels, working across genres to bring audiences a diverse experience: from Charlie “Bird” Parker and the origins of the Grateful Dead, through YUNGBLUD Presents: The Twisted tales of the Ritalin Club, to internet sensation turned metal agitpop singer Poppy. They are now paying tribute to one of heavy metal’s most iconic figures,…

James Comey Gets the Hero Treatment in New Showtime Series Trailer

We have our first look at Jeff Daniels as James Comey and Brendan Gleeson as Donald Trump in The Comey Rule. And to be honest, it appears eerie in more than one way. The new two-part miniseries event hails from Showtime and creator Billy Ray, who among other credits wrote Captain Phillips and the adapted screenplay to the first Hunger Games movie. So the true story aspirations of the former and dystopian vision of reality television stars in the latter appear to merge in this visibly stirring image of James Comey, the all-American hero on screen. The series will be…

The sequel always has to go darker, right? After a new hope, the empire needs to strike back. It’s true from The Temple of Doom scaring the PG out of Raiders of the Lost Ark to The Dark Knight snuffing the ray of hope presented in Batman Begins. And it appears to be true in some form with Aquaman 2, judging by what director James Wan teased at DC FanDome. Speaking at a panel that consisted of Wan and frequent collaborator Patrick Wilson chatting among themselves, the pair traded little scraps of on-set memories before teasing what to expect from…

James Mangold Recalls ‘Incestuous’ System Between Harvey Weinstein’s Miramax and Film Critics

James Mangold’s Cop Land was probably ahead of its time. Released in 1997 to positive if not enthusiastic reviews, and a healthy if not massive box office haul, the movie was criticized by some at the time for its overly cynical depiction of the New York Police Department. For others, there was an ambivalence toward casting action star Sylvester Stallone in a serious role opposite Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel. More than 20 years later, however, one imagines Cop Land’s use of an action star in a dramatic light might be better received in this day and age—think Stallone’s…

James Cameron Reveals ‘Guilty Pleasure’ Lockdown Movie

Some vindication has arrived for fans of Paul W. S. Anderson’s Capcom video game adaptation, Resident Evil. Terminator and Aliens director James Cameron has picked it as one of his surprising lockdown movies of choice, though he does describe it as a “guilty pleasure”, a phrase we don’t put a lot of stock in here at Den of Geek – you shouldn’t really feel guilty about liking the things you like, even if they’re objectively bobbins. One person’s ‘trash’ can be another person’s treasure, after all. Cameron revealed 2002’s Resident Evil, which ended up kick-starting a ludicrous but pretty damn…

In times of great stress it’s natural for us to all find some sort of escapism – and movies are the perfect way to forget about your problems (or the world’s) for a couple of hours. Personally, we’ve found the James Bond franchise to be among the best forms of such entertainment: the movies are pure adventure and fantasy, they have a comforting template that they mostly follow, and you can dive into the series — or even an individual film — without having to catch up on anything that came before. That’s why it’s so heartening to learn that…
