2021 is now in full swing, and film distributors are beginning to feel out what the new normal actually is. Given the latest news about COVID variants, movie theaters remain a tenuous bet—although some films are still releasing there—while streaming at home becomes evermore enticing with one of Warner Bros.’ Oscar contenders set to premiere simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. This month also marks the theatrical and/or streaming release of some of last year’s best films. So for film lovers, the choice of what to watch (and how to view it) remains more varied than ever. New on Netflix UK February 2021

A couple of things have caught our eye in February’s Netflix UK line-up, first, the German dystopian sci-fi Tribes of Europa. After the success of sci-fi series Dark, the streaming service invested in a bunch of new German-language series, including the mega-successful historical Barbarians. Tribes was among them, and tells the story of a group of siblings in 2074, separated after a global disaster that leaves Europe riven by warring factions. Also sounding like a good time is South Korean comedy Space Sweepers, about a spaceship crew tasked with cleaning up intergalactic trash.  There’s also the arrival of Parks and…

If your UK lockdown viewing is starting to feel a bit barrel-scrapey (there are only so many times one can rewatch The Office: An American Workplace without turning into a Dwight Shrute bobblehead) then Amazon has some potentially tasty options for the coming month. US sci-fi Soulmates starring Succession‘s Sarah Snook (pictured) arrived on AMC last year and makes its UK debut on the 8th, while Rosamund Pike-starring con-artist thriller I Care a Lot, also starring Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage, has been picking up some great reviews. Here’s that, plus new weekly episodes of American Gods, The Expanse, The…

The other film is…
