What It’s Like to Play Control on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series Laptop

This article is presented by NVIDIA. The first thing I notice on returning to the Federal Bureau of Control for the first time in over a year is just how shiny everything looks. Janitor Ahti has clearly done a bang-up job in my absence, despite his – SPOILERS – fairly significant duties in the Oldest House. Because the laptop I’m using – a top-of-the-line NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080-toting MSI GS66 Stealth – is comfortably the most powerful gaming setup I’ve ever used, ray tracing is maxed out on the 2K screen and it really shows wherever you look.  Ray tracing,…

What Control and Hitman 3 Cloud Streaming Means for Nintendo Switch

Leave it to Nintendo to use a previously unannounced Nintendo Direct presentation to reveal that Control and Hitman 3 are coming to Nintendo Switch via a cloud streaming service. While these aren’t the first Nintendo Switch games to support cloud technology (Resident Evil 7 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey beat them to the punch), previous uses of this concept were seen as a dry run test of bigger things to come. Well, it certainly feels like that’s what’s happening right now. So what does this mean for the future of the Nintendo Switch? It could be years before we know the…

How to Stream Control on Nintendo Switch

Nintendo shocked millions of gamers today by revealing that Control and Hitman 3 are coming to Nintendo Switch…through a cloud streaming service. While we’re going to have to wait a little while longer for Hitman 3, Remedy’s Control is available for Nintendo Switch right now. That’s great news for Nintendo Switch gamers who never got the chance to experience one of the best games of 2019, but it’s the kind of shocking revelation that will surely leave many Switch owners with a hundred unanswered questions. While the answers to some of those questions will come in time, here’s a brief…

Totally Under Control

On January 20th, 2020 the US and South Korea both discovered their first cases of COVID-19. However, 9 months later, the novel Coronavirus has claimed the lives of over 200,000 Americans and caused staggering economic damage, while in South Korea, there were no significant lockdowns and, in an urbanized population of 51 million, only 344 lives have been lost. Where did we go wrong? As the presidential election nears, Americans are increasingly enraged by a lack of clear leadership, endemic political corruption and left to wonder how did the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world manage to fail…

Xbox Team Indicates Bethesda Will Retain Creative Control

In a statement to CNET, Xbox’s Phil Spencer noted that Microsoft currently plans for Bethesda to operate semi-independently despite the fact that they were one of the ZeniMax Media studios acquired in a recent deal. “It is about the culture of those teams,” said Spencer of Bethesda. “They’re not about becoming us.” While Spencer does not elaborate on how, exactly, Microsoft and the Xbox team will treat Bethesda in regards to official requests and other procedural matters, everything that we’ve heard so far seems to indicate that the plan is for Bethesda to pretty much function as they would have…

Control: AWE Review – Alan Wake Pays Jesse a Visit in the Oldest House

Control’s first DLC, The Foundation, offered a lot of exploration but surprisingly little world-building. Protagonist Jesse Faden had settled into her role as Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, and learned more about the game’s ever-shifting brutalist setting, the Oldest House. Limited by the mostly identical hallways of the House’s undercroft, The Foundation never matched the wonder of finally seeing the sky in the initial campaign or meeting some of the characters for the first time. Fortunately, the newest venture into the Oldest House, AWE, is a much more substantial expansion, bringing horror and quirky humor to a story…

Control Developer Remedy Working on New “Connected Universe” Game

In a recent blog post, Remedy hinted that their next project could help further the idea of a shared universe in their video games. “For over 10 years, we’ve had a crazy dream,” says Sam Lake, Remedy’s creative director. “The idea that the tales told in some of our games would be connected to each other, a connected world of stories and events with shared characters and lore. Each game is a stand-alone experience, but each game is also a doorway into a larger universe with exciting opportunities for crossover events.” Obviously, that statement could be interpreted as a bit…

Control: AWE Expansion Trailer Features the Return of Alan Wake

It appears that Alan Wake will finally return in Control‘s upcoming DLC expansion, AWE. A new trailer for AWE is light on details, but it opens with the sound of typewriter followed by Alan Wake’s voice warning us to “stay in the light.” After a few cinematic flashes of some mostly industrial settings, we’re treated to a few snippets of gameplay from the upcoming DLC. While Alan Wake does not appear as a playable character during those gameplay segments, we do catch a brief glimpse of him during the trailer’s closing moments. Interestingly, he’s shown in black and white during…

How Control: The Foundation Changes Jesse Faden

Control’s central metaphor is about revealing hidden things. Specifically, it’s about pulling away a poster on the wall of a jail, finding the whole world outside. In the game, Jesse Faden delves into a secret NYC building called the Oldest House to find the group she’s always suspected kidnapped her brother. Inside, she finds the Federal Bureau of Control, the government agency responsible for tackling unexplained phenomena, itself overseen by a mysterious entity called the Board.  By the start of the game’s first DLC, The Foundation, Jesse is well-versed in a whole new world of weirdness. She has embraced her…
