Larian Studios and Wizards of the Coast have teamed up to bring fans the long-awaited Baldur’s Gate 3, which hits Steam early access today. Over the weekend, I spent 18+ hours with a pre-release early access build of the game, and so far I’ve found this RPG sequel to be absolutely addicting. Even in early access, I’m really looking forward to sinking dozens upon dozens of more hours into Baldur’s Gate 3. The early access only features Act 1 of the game’s full narrative, but this is still a very generous taste of Larian’s take on the Forgotten Realms, with…

In the streaming wars, you’re either a “+”, a “Max”, or weirdly, a “Peacock.” ViacomCBS has decided to go with the first option. The entertainment conglomerate today announced that it has settled on a brand for its new all-encompassing streaming service. ViacomCBS’s answer to Disney+ and HBO Max will officially be dubbed Paramount+. With brands like Viacom, CBS, Showtime, MTV, and more in the fold, ViacomCBS had no shortage of naming options. But it elected to go with its movie arm Paramount, perhaps believing that will add a level of prestige. As previously confirmed, ViacomCBS’s most prominent current streaming service,…

In a world beset by dozens of streaming options, what are some of the less popular and essential streaming services to do? Well bundle, of course! Earlier this week, in “wait, did we accidentally invent cable again?” news, Apple announced a new partnership with ViacomCBS to provide Apple TV+ subscribers with a new bundling option. As of August 17, 2020, Apple TV+ users are now able to purchase additional access to CBS All Access and Showtime for $9.99 a month after a seven day free trial. Content from all three services will be available to watch online and offline without…

I was a latecomer to the roguelike genre, unable to comprehend how the concept of having your progress almost entirely wiped upon death could be fun – let alone rewarding. Then Rogue Legacy released in 2013 and everything changed. There was just something incredibly moreish about exploring these randomly generated dungeons, dying a lot, and yet still knowing that at least some of my character’s skills would be passed down to a new playable descendant. Cut to 2020 and I find myself uttering “just one more run” all over again in this inventive dungeon-diving sequel. Rogue Legacy 2 officially entered…

Developer Larian Studios has confirmed via Twitter that the previously planned Steam Early Access release date for Baldur’s Gate 3‘s first act has been delayed. Good news and bad news. BG3 won’t hit August, but it’s just around the corner. We’ll be announcing the release date, as well as big news on the Panel From Hell alongside @geoffkeighley, @LarAtLarian and the Larian crew. Tune in Aug 18th. https://t.co/S1RlVpJ8yw pic.twitter.com/NCkrnHHpH0— Larian Studios (@larianstudios) August 4, 2020 As noted in the tweet above, Larian Studios previously planned to release Baldur’s Gate 3‘s first act via Steam’s Early Access program sometime in August.…

Kamp Koral is officially relocating its SpongeBob SquarePants prequel hijinks to the new lakefront platform of CBS All Access. As part of a massive refurbishing to both its interface and lineup, streamer CBS All Access has announced that it will claim exclusivity of the previously Nickelodeon-bound prequel series, titled Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years. With the series having passed its original July 2020 Nickelodeon premiere window, it is now set for a streaming premiere on CBS All Access in early 2021 on a date to be revealed. The streaming move is merely the latest from chimerical corporate parent ViacomCBS of…

Looks like that Viacom-CBS merger is continuing to pay off for both companies… and also for consumers who aren’t afraid of a little corporate consolidation. Deadline reports that ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish told analysts and investors on a Thursday conference call that the company’s most prominent streaming service, CBS All Access, will be getting a reband, expanding internationally, and adding hundreds of library titles. Directly after the call, CBS All Access added more than 100 films from subsidiary Paramount. Prominent titles include the Star Trek films and The Godfather. In the coming months, shows and movies from other ViacomCBS properties…
