A Quiet Place was a massive success story at the box office in 2018. The movie was directed by John Krasinski, who also co-wrote it with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. So it is with great fanfare that Krasinski returned as both the writer and director for the sequel, aptly titled A Quiet Place Part II.
A lot of elements in A Quiet Place remain unexplored, like the origin of the creatures, how much of the rest of the Earth is affected by them, and how even our central family managed to escape to a farm. All of which could, and even appears likely to, form the basis of a second movie.
So where do we go from here? We’ll have to wait a bit to find out due to the latest bit of news…
A Quiet Place 2 Release Date
A Quiet Place II has become the latest film to cancel its release due to concerns from the pandemic of the coronavirus known as COVID-19. A Quiet Place II was originally set to be released internationally on March 18 and in North America on March 20. Kransinki made the announcement via Instagram.
No new release date has been scheduled for the film yet. It could be awhile as events on the calendar for March, April, and beyond have been cancelling rapidly.
A Quiet Place 2 Super Bowl TV Spot
The first Super Bowl TV spot gives a lot more substantive ideas about what A Quiet Place Part II will be about. For starters, it turns out Krasinski will be returning for flashbacks of how this disaster all started (at least from his family’s perspective). It also suggests that Evelyn Abbot is determined to save other people, even at the risk of her own family. That’s pretty bold for a single mother with a newborn whose cry sounds like ad inner bell…

A Quiet Place 2 Cast
Emily Blunt and child actors Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe will be reprising their role as the family at the center of the A Quiet Place story. This is happy news given that they only learned to fight back at the end of the first movie, and exploring particularly Regan’s relationship with her mother now that her hearing impairment is a weapon should be fascinating.
Cillian Murphy was the first major addition to the A Quiet Place: Part II. The long-time Christopher Nolan collaborator is expected to be portraying a mysterious man who joins the family unit.
If A Quiet Place 2 is in need of a mysterious man, Murphy is a good pick. Murphy first came to prominence in the Danny Boyle zombie horror film 28 Days Later. He then went on to appear in every installment of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy as Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow.
Djimon Hounsou will replace Brian Tyree Henry in a mystery role, as Collider reported.
A Quiet Place 2 Story
John Krasinski and Emily Blunt spoke a bit to EW about what to expect from the A Quiet Place sequel. According to Blunt, the movie will be a direct continuation.
“The idea of seeing who these people were before this all happened would be interesting,” says Blunt, “But I think actually it’s now what’s the next chapter and what happens next… I think people feel very invested in this family… I think it’s such an open book right now, and certainly for John who is lasering into something as we speak.”
Also in 2019, writers Brian Woods and Scott Beck expressed interest in further exploring the world of A Quiet Place. Speaking with Fandango, Woods said that the environment of the movie is “such a fun world,” adding, “There are so many things you could do.” Options include taking the perspective of a different family in a similar situation, or picking up the story from the first film. Beck continued, “There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer. So yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell. It’s just really, at the end of the day, who are the characters in this and what does the situation mean to that dynamic?”
